Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d:
We used to be happy on Fridays because an old woman would pull out the roots of Silq, cook them with some barley, and serve us after the Friday prayer. We never ate or rested before the prayer. By Allah, that meal contained no fat.

Narrated Abu Qatada:
While we were on the road to Mecca, my companions, who were in Ihram, saw an onager while I was busy mending my shoes. I saddled my horse, chased it, and killed it. My companions started eating from it but doubted whether it was lawful for them in Ihram. When we met the Prophet (peace be upon him), he asked, “Do you have any of its meat?” I gave him a foreleg, and he ate from it until he stripped the bone, though he was in a state of Ihram.

Narrated `Amr bin Umaiyya:
He saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) holding a shoulder piece of mutton in his hand and cutting from it with a knife. Then he was called for prayer, so he put it down along with the knife and stood for prayer without performing ablution again.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) never criticized any food; if he liked it, he ate it, and if he disliked it, he left it.

Narrated Abu Hazim:
He asked Sahl, “Did you use white flour during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him)?” Sahl replied, “No.” He asked, “Did you sift barley flour?” He said, “No, we used to blow off the husk.”

Once the Prophet (peace be upon him) distributed dates among his companions, giving each one seven dates. He gave me seven as well, one of which was dry and hard, but I liked it the most because it lasted long while chewing.

Narrated Sa`d:
I was one of the first seven who had embraced Islam with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him), and we had nothing to eat except the leaves of the Habala tree, so that our stool resembled that of sheep. Now the tribe of Bani Asad wants to teach me Islam—then I would be a loser.
