Chapter: 7 The mention of the Qahtan tribe
Sahih al-Bukhari 3517
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The Hour will not be established unless a man from the tribe of Qahtan appears, driving the people with his stick (ruling them with violence and oppression).”
Chapter:8 What is forbidden of the Da’wah of the Period of Ignorance
Sahih al-Bukhari 3518
Narrated Jabir: We were in the company of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a battle. A large number of emigrants joined him, and among them was a person who used to joke or play with spears. He struck an Ansari man on the hip. The Ansari got very angry and both men called their people. The Ansari said, “Help, O Ansar!” and the emigrant said, “Help, O emigrants!” The Prophet (peace be upon him) came out and said, “What is wrong with the people calling this call of the period of ignorance?” Then he said, “What is the matter with them?” He was told about the incident. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Leave it, for it is an evil call.” Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul said, “They have gathered against us. When we return to Medina, the more honorable will expel the meaner.” Umar said, “O Allah’s Messenger! Shall we not kill this evil man?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “No, lest the people say that Muhammad used to kill his companions.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3519
Narrated Abdullah bin Mas’ud: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever slaps his face, tears the bosom of his dress, or calls the calls of the period of ignorance, is not from us.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3520
Abu Huraira narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “`Amr bin Luhai bin Qam’a bin Khindif was the father of Khuza’a.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3521
Said bin Al-Musaiyab narrated that Al-Bahira was an animal whose milk was spared for the idols and so nobody was allowed to milk it. As-Saiba was an animal which the infidels used to set free in the names of their gods so that it would not be used for carrying anything. Abu Huraira said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I saw
Amr bin ‘Amir bin Luhai Al-Khuza`i dragging his intestines in the Hell Fire, for he was the first man who started the custom of releasing animals (for the sake of false gods).”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3522
Ibn Abbas said to us, "Shall I tell you the story of Abu Dhar's conversion to Islam?" We said, "Yes." He said: Abu Dhar said, I was a man from the tribe of Ghifar. We heard that a man had appeared in Mecca, claiming to be a Prophet. I said to my brother, "Go to that man, talk to him, and bring me his news." He went, met him, and returned. I asked, "What news do you bring?" He said, "By Allah, I saw a man enjoining good and forbidding evil." I said, "You have not satisfied me with this." So I took a waterskin and a stick and went to Mecca. I did not know him (the Prophet, peace be upon him), and I did not want to ask anyone. I stayed in the Mosque and drank Zamzam water. Then
Ali passed by and said, “You seem to be a stranger.” I said, “Yes.” He invited me to his house without asking anything. The next morning I returned to the Mosque. Ali again passed by and asked, "Hasn’t the man recognized his place yet?" I said, "No." He said, "Come with me." He asked what brought me there. I told him in secret that I had heard of a Prophet, sent my brother to investigate, and came myself because I wasn't satisfied.
Ali said, “You’ve found what you’re looking for. Follow me, and enter where I enter. If I see someone I fear might harm you, I will act as if fixing my shoes by the wall — then go away.” I followed him until we reached the Prophet (peace be upon him). I asked to be introduced to Islam, and when he did, I accepted immediately. The Prophet (peace be upon him) told me, “O Abu Dhar! Keep this matter secret and return to your town. When you hear of our victory, come back.” I said, “By Him Who sent you with the truth, I will proclaim it openly!” I went to the Mosque and declared, “O Quraish! I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.” The Quraish attacked me and beat me until I nearly died. Al-Abbas saw me, shielded me, and said, “Woe to you! Would you kill a man from Ghifar when your trade and routes go through Ghifar?” So they left me. The next day, I did the same and was again attacked, and again Al-Abbas rescued me. That was the beginning of Abu Dhar’s conversion to Islam — may Allah have mercy on him.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3523
Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “(The people of) Aslam, Ghifar, and some people from Muzaina and Juhaina — or some from Juhaina or Muzaina — are better with Allah (or on the Day of Resurrection) than the tribes of Asad, Tamim, Hawazin, and Ghatafan.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3524
Ibn `Abbas said: If you wish to know about the ignorance of the Arabs, refer to Surah Al-An’am after Verse No. 130: “Indeed lost are those who have killed their children from folly without knowledge and have forbidden that which Allah has provided for them, inventing a lie against Allah. They have indeed gone astray and were not guided.” (6:140)
Sahih al-Bukhari 3525
Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The honourable, the son of the honourable, the son of the honourable, i.e., Yusuf (Joseph), the son of Ya’qub (Jacob), the son of Ishaq (Isaac), the son of Ibrahim (Abraham), the Khalil (friend) of Allah.” Al-Bara’ narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I am the son of ‘Abdul-Muttalib.” Ibn Abbas said: When the verse — “And warn your tribe of near kindred.” (26:214) — was revealed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) started calling the various tribes of Quraish, saying, “O Bani Fihr, O Bani
Adi,” calling them by their clan names.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3526
Ibn `Abbas said: When the verse — “And warn your tribe of near kindred.” (26:214) — was revealed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) started calling them tribe by tribe.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3527
Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “O Bani Abd Munaf! Save yourselves from Allah. O Bani
Abdul-Muttalib! Save yourselves from Allah. O mother of Az-Zubair bin Al-Awwam, the aunt of Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him), and O Fatima bint Muhammad! Save yourselves from Allah, for I cannot defend you before Allah. You may ask me whatever you wish from my property.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3528
Anas narrated: The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent for the Ansar and when they came, he asked, “Is there any stranger among you?” They said, “No, except the son of our sister.” Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “The son of the sister of some people belongs to them.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3529, 3530
Aisha narrated: During the days of Mina, Abu Bakr came to me while two girls were with me, beating drums. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was lying down, covered with his garment. Abu Bakr rebuked the two girls, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) uncovered his face and said, “O Abu Bakr! Leave them, for these are the days of Eid.” Aisha added: “Those days were the days of Mina.” She also said: “I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) shielding me while I was watching the Ethiopians playing in the mosque. Umar rebuked them, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘Leave them, O Bani Arfida! Play, for you are safe.’”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3531
Aisha narrated: Hassan bin Thabit asked the permission of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to lampoon the polytheists. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “What about the fact that I have common descent with them?” Hassan replied, “I shall take you out of them as a hair is taken out of dough.” Urwa narrated: I started speaking against Hassan in front of Aisha, whereupon she said, “Do not abuse him, for he used to defend the Prophet (peace be upon him) with his poetry.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3532
Jubair bin Mut’im narrated: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “I have five names: I am Muhammad and Ahmad; I am Al-Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate infidelity; I am Al-Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected, and the people will be resurrected after me; and I am also Al-‘Aqib (i.e., there will be no prophet after me).”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3533
Abu Huraira narrated: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Doesn’t it astonish you how Allah protects me from the abuse and cursing of the Quraish? They abuse Mudhammam and curse Mudhammam, while I am Muhammad (and not Mudhammam).”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3534
Jabir bin Abdullah narrated: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “My similitude in comparison with the other prophets is that of a man who has built a house completely and excellently except for a place of one brick. When the people enter the house, they admire its beauty and say: ‘But for the place of this brick (how splendid the house would be)!'”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3535
Abu Huraira narrated: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “My similitude in comparison with the other prophets before me is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner. The people go about it and wonder at its beauty, but say: ‘Would that this brick be put in its place!’ So I am that brick, and I am the last of the Prophets.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3536
