Volume 4, Book 60- Prophets
📘 Chapter 4: The Statement of Allah Ta’ala
“And verily, Ilyas was one of the Messengers… when he said to his people: ‘Will you not fear Allah? Will you call upon Ba‘l and forsake the Best of Creators – Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?’ But they denied him, so they will certainly be brought [for punishment] – except the chosen slaves of Allah. And We left for him [a good name] among the later generations.”
Explanation:
Ibn ‘Abbas said: “He is remembered in good terms.”
As for the verse, “Peace be upon Ilyasin…” it is explained as a way of honoring the Prophet Ilyas.
Some narrations from Ibn Mas‘ud and Ibn ‘Abbas mention that Ilyas is Idris, though the majority distinguish them as separate prophets.
📘 Chapter 5: The Mention of Idris (peace be upon him)
“And We raised him to a high station.” – [Surah Maryam: 57]
Hadith 3342
Narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Abu Dharr used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“While I was in Makkah, the roof of my house was opened, and Jibril (Gabriel) descended. He opened my chest, washed it with Zamzam water, and then brought a golden tray filled with wisdom and faith, which he poured into my chest and then sealed it.
Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the heaven.
When Jibril reached the nearest heaven, he requested it to be opened. The gatekeeper asked, ‘Who is it?’
Jibril replied, ‘It is Jibril.’
The gatekeeper asked, ‘Is anyone with you?’
He replied, ‘Muhammad (peace be upon him) is with me.’
The gatekeeper asked, ‘Has he been sent for?’
Jibril said, ‘Yes.’ So, the gate was opened.
There the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw a man sitting with a large group on his right and a large group on his left. When he looked to the right, he laughed; when he looked to the left, he wept.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked Jibril, “Who is this?”
Jibril said, “This is Adam. Those on his right are the people of Paradise, and those on the left are the people of the Fire.”
Then they ascended to the second heaven, where the same conversation occurred. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then met the following prophets:
- Idris, who said: “Welcome, O pious Prophet and pious brother.”
- Musa (Moses), who said: “Welcome, O pious Prophet and pious brother.”
- ‘Isa (Jesus), who also said the same greeting.
- Ibrahim (Abraham), who said: “Welcome, O pious Prophet and pious son.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Then I was taken to a level where I could hear the creaking of pens.”
🕋 About the 50 Prayers:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Allah enjoined fifty prayers on me. When I returned, I passed by Musa who asked, ‘What has Allah enjoined on your people?’
I said, ‘Fifty prayers.’
He said, ‘Return to your Lord and ask for a reduction, for your nation will not be able to bear it.’
So I returned, and Allah reduced it to forty, then to thirty, and so on until they were reduced to five.”
Allah said:
“They are five in number, but fifty in reward. My Word does not change.”
When Musa again suggested returning, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“I feel shy to ask my Lord again.”
Then he was taken to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (the Lote Tree of the Furthest Limit), and admitted to Paradise, where he saw its soil was of musk and its pavilions of pearls.
Chapter 6: The Statement of Allah Ta’ala
“And to ‘Ad (people), We sent their brother Hud…”
Also referring to Allah’s statement:
“…when he warned his people in Al-Ahqaf… until [the verse] ‘Thus do We recompense the criminal people.’”
This chapter contains narration from ‘Ata and Sulaiman from A’isha regarding the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Allah’s Statement:
“And as for ‘Ad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind.”
It is said: ‘Aatiyah’ means it defied the keepers [of the wind].
“…which He imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession…”
It is said: This means continuously.
“…so you would see the people lying therein dead as if they were hollow trunks of palm-trees. Do you see any remnants of them?”
Meaning: Any survivors.
Hadith 3343
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“I have been made victorious with As-Saba (an easterly wind), and the people of ‘Ad were destroyed by Ad-Dabur (a westerly wind).”
Hadith 3344
Narrated Abu Sa‘id: ‘Ali sent a piece of gold to the Prophet (peace be upon him), who distributed it among four people:
- Al-Aqra’ bin Habis Al-Hanzali from the tribe of Mujashi‘,
- ‘Uyaina bin Badr Al-Fazari,
- Zaid at-Ta’i from Banu Nahban,
- ‘Alqama bin Ulatha Al-‘Amiri from Banu Kilab.
The Quraysh and the Ansar became upset and said, “He gives to the chiefs of Najd and leaves us out.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I give them to win their hearts (towards Islam).”Then a man with sunken eyes, prominent cheekbones, a raised forehead, a thick beard, and a shaven head came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: “Fear Allah, O Muhammad!”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: “Who would obey Allah if I disobeyed Him? Allah has trusted me with the people of the earth, and you do not trust me?”
Someone (believed to be Khalid bin Al-Walid) asked for permission to kill the man, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) refused.
When the man left, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“Among the descendants of this man will be people who will recite the Qur’an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will exit the religion just as an arrow passes through the game animal. They will kill the Muslims but leave the idolaters alone. If I live to see them, I will kill them as the people of ‘Ad were killed.”
Hadith 3345
Narrated ‘Abdullah: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) reciting:
“Fahal Min Muddakir”
(“Is there anyone who will take heed?”)
Chapter 7: The Story of Gog and Magog
Allah the Exalted said:
“They said, ‘O Dhul-Qarnain, indeed Gog and Magog are spreading corruption on earth.'”
And also:
“And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say, ‘I will recite to you a mention of him.’ Indeed, We established him upon the earth, and We gave him to everything a way. So he followed a way…”
Until the verse:
“Bring me sheets of iron.”
(A single sheet is called zubrah, meaning ‘a piece’.)“Until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls…”
Ibn ‘Abbas said: The mountains.
“Bring me molten copper to pour over it.”
(It is said that “qitran” means molten lead, some say it is iron, others say it is brass. Ibn ‘Abbas said: It is copper.)
“So they could not scale it, nor could they pierce it.”
“This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes, He will level it to the ground.”
It is said: That means flatten it, like the earth that is pressed down.
“And the promise of my Lord is true.”
“And We shall leave them that day surging over each other.”
“Until when Gog and Magog are let loose, and they rush headlong from every elevation.”
Qatadah said: “Haddab” means elevated places or hills.
A man said to the Prophet (peace be upon him):
“I saw the dam [of Gog and Magog], and it looked like a woven garment.”
He replied: “You have seen it.”
Hadith 3346
Narrated Zainab bint Jahsh: The Prophet (peace be upon him) once came to her in a state of fear and said:
“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. Woe unto the Arabs from a danger that has come near. Today, a hole has been made in the wall of Gog and Magog like this, ”and he formed a circle with his thumb and index finger.
Zainab asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Will we be destroyed even though there are righteous people among us?”
He replied: “Yes, if evil becomes widespread.”
Hadith 3347
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah has made an opening in the wall of Gog and Magog like this,” and he illustrated the size using his fingers.
Hadith 3348
Narrated Abu Sa‘id Al-Khudri: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will say: ‘O Adam!’ Adam will respond: ‘Here I am at Your service, and all good is in Your Hands.’
Allah will say: ‘Bring forth those destined for the Fire.’
Adam will ask: ‘O Lord, how many are they?’
Allah will say: ‘From every thousand, nine-hundred-and ninety-nine.’”
At that time, children’s hair will turn gray, every pregnant woman will miscarry, and people will appear drunken, though they are not—such is the severity of Allah’s punishment.
The companions asked: “O Messenger of Allah, who is the one (survivor) among us?”
He replied: “Rejoice! One will be from you and one-thousand will be from Gog and Magog.”
Then he said: “By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, I hope that you will be one-fourth of the people of Paradise.”
They exclaimed: “Allahu Akbar!”
He continued:
“I hope you will be one-third of the people of Paradise.”
They exclaimed again: “Allahu Akbar!”
He said: “I hope you will be half of the people of Paradise.”
They exclaimed: “Allahu Akbar!”
He said: “You (Muslims), compared to the rest of mankind, are like a black hair on the skin of a white ox, or a white hair on the skin of a black ox.”
Chapter 8: The Statement of Allah Ta‘ala:
“…And Allah did take Ibrahim as a Khalil (an intimate friend).”
Also: “Indeed, Ibrahim was a nation [unto himself], devoutly obedient to Allah…”
“Indeed, Ibrahim was forbearing and tender-hearted.”
Abu Maysarah said: “Raheem” means “merciful” in the Ethiopian language.
Hadith 3349
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “You will be gathered [on the Day of Judgment] barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised.”
He then recited: “As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it: A promise We have undertaken. Truly We shall do it.” (Qur’an 21:104)
He added: “The first to be dressed on the Day of Resurrection will be Ibrahim. Then some of my companions will be taken to the left side (toward the Hellfire), and I will say, ‘My companions! My companions!’
It will be said: ‘They turned away from Islam after you left them.’
Then I will say as the righteous servant (Jesus) said:
‘And I was a witness over them while I dwelt among them. When You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a witness to all things. If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, indeed You are the Almighty, the All-Wise.’” (Qur’an 5:117–118)
Hadith 3350
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, Ibrahim will meet his father Azar whose face will be dark and covered with dust.
Ibrahim will say: ‘Did I not tell you not to disobey me?’
Azar will reply: ‘Today I will not disobey you.’
Ibrahim will say: ‘O Lord! You promised me not to disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection. And what is more disgraceful than cursing and dishonoring my father?’
Allah will say: ‘I have forbidden Paradise to the disbelievers.’
Then Ibrahim will be told: ‘O Ibrahim, look beneath your feet.’
He will look and see a blood-stained animal (a dhabh), and it will be caught by its legs and thrown into the Hellfire.”
Hadith 3351
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) entered the Ka‘ba and found inside it images of Ibrahim and Maryam.
He said: “What is wrong with them? Haven’t they heard that the angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures?
Here is the image of Ibrahim—and why is he shown practicing divination by arrows?”
Hadith 3352
Narrated Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw pictures in the Ka
ba, he did not enter it until he ordered that they be erased. When he saw the pictures of Abraham and Ishmael carrying the arrows of divination, he said:
“May Allah curse them (i.e., the Quraish)! By Allah, neither Abraham nor Ishmael ever practiced divination by arrows.”
Hadith 3353
Narrated Abu Huraira: The people said, “O Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)! Who is the most honorable amongst the people (in Allah’s sight)?”
He said:
“The most righteous among them.”
They said, “We are not asking about this.”
He said:
“Then (it is) Joseph, Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Khalil (i.e., Abraham).”
They said, “We do not want to ask about this.”
He said:
“You want to ask about the descent of the Arabs. Those who were the best in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance will be the best in Islam, provided they comprehend the religious knowledge.”
Hadith 3354
Narrated Samura: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Two persons came to me at night (in a dream) and took me along with them. We passed by a tall man whose head I could barely see because of his height. That man was Abraham.”
Hadith 3355
Narrated Mujahid: When people mentioned to Ibn `Abbas that the Dajjal would have the word Kafir (i.e., disbeliever) or the letters K-F-R written on his forehead, he said: “I did not hear this, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
‘If you want to see Abraham, then look at your companion (the Prophet).’
As for Moses, he was a curly-haired, brown-skinned man, riding a red camel, the reins of which were made of palm-fiber. As if I were now looking at him descending a valley.'”
Hadith 3352:
Narrated Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw pictures in the Ka
ba, he did not enter it until he ordered that they be erased. When he saw the pictures of Abraham and Ishmael carrying the arrows of divination, he said: “May Allah curse them (i.e., the Quraish)! By Allah, neither Abraham nor Ishmael ever practiced divination by arrows.”
