Volume 4, 59 Beginning of Creation
📘 Chapter: 11 The Characteristics of Iblis (Satan) and His Soldiers
📖 Hadith No. 3268
Narrated Aisha: Magic was worked on the Prophet (ﷺ) so that he began to imagine he was doing something, even though he hadn’t actually done it. One day he made a long supplication to Allah and then said:
“I feel that Allah has shown me how to cure myself. Two men came to me (in a dream), one sat by my head and the other at my feet. One asked, ‘What is the illness of this man?’ The other replied, ‘He has been bewitched.’ The first asked, ‘Who has bewitched him?’ The other replied, ‘Lubaid bin Al-A’sam.’ The first asked, ‘With what material?’ The other replied, ‘With a comb, hair collected on it, and the outer skin of a male date-palm flower.’ The first asked, ‘Where is it?’ The other replied, ‘In the well of Dharwan.’”
So, the Prophet (ﷺ) went to that well and returned saying:
“The date-palms near it are like the heads of devils.”
I asked, “Did you take out the materials?”
He replied:
“No, for Allah has cured me, and I feared that this might cause harm among the people.”
Later, the well was filled in.
📖 Hadith No. 3269
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“During your sleep, Satan ties three knots at the back of your head. With each knot, he says, ‘The night is long, so keep sleeping.’ When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone. When he performs ablution, the second knot is undone. And when he prays, all the knots are undone, and he wakes up energetic and in good spirits. Otherwise, he wakes up lazy and in a bad mood.”
📖 Hadith No. 3270
Narrated `Abdullah (Ibn Mas’ud):
Mention was made before the Prophet (ﷺ) of a man who slept the whole night until morning (without waking for prayer). The Prophet said:
“That is a man in whose ears Satan has urinated.”
Hadith No. 3271
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“If any one of you, when having sexual relations with his wife, says: ‘In the name of Allah, O Allah! Protect us from Satan and prevent Satan from approaching the offspring you are going to give us,’ then if he begets a child, Satan will not harm it.”
Hadith No. 3272 & 3273
Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“When the upper edge of the sun appears in the morning, do not pray until the sun fully rises. And when the lower edge of the sun sets, do not pray until it completely sets. Do not pray at sunrise or sunset, for the sun rises between two horns of Satan.”
Hadith No. 3274
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“If someone tries to pass in front of you while you are praying, prevent him. If he insists, prevent him again. If he insists again, fight him, because such a person is like a devil.”
Hadith No. 3275
Narrated Muhammad bin Sirin: Abu Huraira said:
“Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) put me in charge of the Zakat of Ramadan. A man came and tried to take some food with both hands. I caught him and said I would take him to the Prophet. He said: ‘Whenever you go to your bed, recite the Verse of Al-Kursi (2:255), for then a guardian from Allah will guard you and Satan will not approach you until dawn.’ The Prophet said, ‘He told you the truth, though he is a liar. That man was a Satan.'”
Hadith No. 3276
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Satan comes to one of you and says, ‘Who created so-and-so?’ until he says, ‘Who created your Lord?’ When he reaches that, one should seek refuge with Allah and stop such thoughts.”
Hadith No. 3277
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.”
Hadith No. 3278
Narrated Ubai bin Ka`b: He heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say:
“(The Prophet) Moses said to his attendant, ‘Bring us our early meal.’ The attendant replied, ‘Did you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock? I forgot the fish; none but Satan made me forget to remember it.’ Moses did not feel tired until he had crossed the place Allah ordered him to go.”
Here’s a clear and concise English summary of these hadiths from Sahih al-Bukhari related to Satan and its influence:
Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3279
Narrated Abdullah bin
Umar: The Prophet (ﷺ) pointed towards the east and said,
“Afflictions will surely emerge from here, where the horn of Satan appears.”
Hadith 3280 — Narrated Jabir:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“When night falls, keep your children close to you, for the devils spread out at that time. After an hour, you may let them go. Close your house gates, mention Allah’s Name, and cover your utensils, mentioning Allah’s Name. If you don’t have a cover, place something over them.”
Hadith 3281
Narrated Safiya bint Huyay: While the Prophet (ﷺ) was in I`tikaf, two Ansari men saw him and hurried away. The Prophet said,
“Don’t hurry, it is Safiya, my wife.” They said, “Glory be to Allah, O Messenger!” He said,
“Satan circulates in the human body like blood, and I feared he might throw an evil thought into your hearts.”
Hadith 3282
Narrated Sulaiman bin Surd: When two men were arguing and one became very angry, the Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“I know a word that will calm him down if he says it: ‘I seek refuge with Allah from Satan.'”
The angry man replied: “Am I mad?”
Hadith 3283
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“If anyone, when having sexual relations with his wife, says: ‘O Allah! Protect me from Satan and keep Satan away from the offspring You grant us,’ then if they conceive, Satan will not harm the child.”
Hadith 3284
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“Satan came to me during prayer trying hard to distract me, but Allah gave me strength to overcome him.”
Hadith 3285
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“When the call to prayer is made, Satan runs away farting loudly. When the call finishes, he returns. When the Iqama is pronounced, he runs away again, and after it finishes, he comes back to whisper distractions between the person and his heart—causing one to forget how many units they have prayed. If confused between three or four units, one should perform two prostrations of forgetfulness (Sahu).”
Hadith 3286
Narrated Abu Huraira: When a human is born, Satan touches him on both sides with his two fingers, except for Jesus (peace be upon him), whom Satan tried to touch but only managed to touch the placenta covering him.
Hadith 3287
Narrated Alqama: Alqama asked about the one protected by Allah against Satan, mentioned by the Prophet (ﷺ). It was explained that the person Allah protected by the Prophet’s tongue was `Ammar ibn Yasir.
Hadith 3288
Narrated `Aisha:
Angels talk in the clouds about what will happen on earth. Devils overhear a bit of this and whisper it into the ears of soothsayers, adding a hundred lies to that one truth.
Hadith 3289
Narrated Abu Huraira: Yawning is from Satan. Whoever yawns should try to stop it as much as possible, because if one says “Ha” during yawning, Satan laughs at him.
Hadith 3290
Narrated `Aisha: On the Day of Uhud, after the Muslims were defeated, Satan shouted to confuse them, causing the front lines to fight the back lines mistakenly. Hudhaifa saw his father being attacked and shouted to stop them, but they killed his father. Hudhaifa prayed for their forgiveness and continued to do good until he died.
Certainly! Here’s the revised summary of Sahih al-Bukhari — Book 59: Hadiths 100–105, with (peace be upon him) instead of (ﷺ):
Hadith 3291
Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that looking around during prayer is something Satan steals from a person’s prayer, causing distraction and lack of focus.
Hadith 3292
Narrated Abu Qatada: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said a good dream is from Allah, but a bad or evil dream is from Satan. If someone has a frightening bad dream, they should spit lightly to their left side and seek refuge in Allah from its evil, so it will not harm them.
Hadith 3293
Narrated Abu Huraira: If a person says the phrase:
“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Alone Who has no partners, to Him belongs Dominion and Praise, and He has power over all things”
one hundred times a day, he will receive the reward equivalent to freeing ten slaves, earn 100 good deeds, erase 100 bad deeds, and be protected from Satan from morning until evening. No one will be better than him except someone who does more.
Hadith 3294 — Narrated Sad bin Abi Waqqas (about
Umar ibn Al-Khattab):
When Umar approached the Prophet **(peace be upon him)**, some women quickly covered themselves out of fear of
Umar’s sternness, not fearing the Prophet. The Prophet (peace be upon him) smiled and said that Satan always avoids the path that `Umar takes.
Hadith 3295
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) advised that upon waking from sleep, one should wash the nose by putting water in and blowing it out three times because Satan stays in the upper part of the nose all night.
