Sahih Al Bukhari Hadith Number 3375-3390

Volume 4,  Book 60- Prophets

Chapter (15):”And (remember) Lout (Lot)!”

“And Lot, when he said to his people: ‘Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the worlds? Verily, you practice lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds.’”
— Surah Al-A‘raf 7:80–81

Hadith 3375:

Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “May Allah forgive Lot: He wanted to have a powerful support.”

Chapter (16): “Then when the messengers came unto the family of Lout…”

Hadith 3376:

Narrated `Abdullah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) recited:

Hal-min-Muddakir” (Is there any that will remember) — [Surah Al-Qamar 54:15].

Chapter (17): The Statement of Allah, the Most High:

“And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih…”
— Surah Al-A‘raf 7:73

Explanation:
The word “Al-Hijr” refers to the place where the people of Thamud resided. “Hijr” in Arabic also means anything forbidden or restricted, such as a sacred place or boundary. It is also used to refer to intellect (ḥijr or ḥijā) and a fenced-off area (like the Ḥijr of the Kaʿba).

Hadith 3377

Narrated Abdullah bin Zama: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him), while referring to the person who had cut the legs of the she-camel (of the Prophet Salih), saying:

“The man who was appointed for doing this job was a man of honor and power in his nation, like Abu Zam`a.”

Hadith 3378

Narrated Ibn `Umar: When Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) arrived at Al-Hijr during the expedition of Tabuk, he instructed his companions not to drink water from its well or to reserve any of it. They said, “We have already kneaded the dough with its water and also filled our water bags.” On hearing that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered them to throw away the dough and pour out the water.

Hadith 3379

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar: The people camped at the land of Thamud, known as Al-Hijr, along with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him). They took water from its well for drinking and kneading dough. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to know of this, he ordered them to pour out the water and feed the dough to the camels. He also instructed them to draw water only from the well from which the she-camel (of Prophet Salih) used to drink.

Hadith 3380

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) passed by a place called Al-Hijr, he said:

“Do not enter the dwellings of those who were unjust to themselves unless you are weeping, lest you should suffer the same punishment that was inflicted upon them.”

Then he covered his face with his cloak while he was mounted on his camel.

Hadith 3381

Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

“Do not enter the ruined dwellings of those who wronged themselves unless you enter weeping, lest the same punishment befall you as befell them.”

(18) Chapter: “Or were you witnesses when death approached Ya`qub (Jacob)?”

Hadith 3382

Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The honorable is the son of the honorable, the son of the honorable, the son of the honorable — Joseph, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham.”

(19) Chapter: The Statement of Allah: “Verily, in Yusuf and his brethren there were Ayat…”

Hadith 3383

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) was asked, “Who is the most honorable among the people?” He replied: “The most Allah-fearing.”

The people said, “We do not ask you about this.”
He said: “The most honorable person is Joseph, the Prophet of Allah, the son of Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Khalil (friend).”

They said, “We do not ask you about this.”
He said: “Then you are asking me about the lineages of the Arabs? People are like mines — the best of them in the pre-Islamic period are the best in Islam, if they gain understanding (of the religion).”

Hadith 3384

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: “Order Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.”

She replied, “Abu Bakr is a soft-hearted person. When he stands in your place, he will weep and will not be able to lead the prayer.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) repeated the same order, and she gave the same reply.
Shu‘ba (the narrator) said that on the third or fourth time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “You are like the female companions of Joseph. Order Abu Bakr to lead the prayer.”

Hadith 3385

Narrated Abu Musa: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) fell ill, he said: “Order Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.”

‘Aisha said, “Abu Bakr is a soft-hearted person.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the same order again, and she again gave the same reply.
He said: “Order him! You are like the female companions of Joseph.”

Consequently, Abu Bakr led the people in prayer during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Hadith 3386

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “O Allah! Save ‘Ayyash bin Abi Rabi‘a.
O Allah! Save Salama bin Hisham.
O Allah! Save Al-Walid bin Al-Walid.
O Allah! Save the oppressed believers.
O Allah! Increase Your pressure on (the tribe of) Mudar.
O Allah! Make it a famine like the years of Joseph.”

Hadith 3387

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

“May Allah bestow His Mercy on Lot. He wanted to have a powerful support.
If I had stayed in prison as long as Joseph, and then someone invited me (out), I would have accepted the invitation.”

Hadith 3388

Narrated Masruq: I asked Umm Ruman, the mother of Aisha, about the accusation that was forged against Aisha. She said:

“While I was sitting with Aisha, an Ansari woman came and said, ‘May Allah condemn so-and-so!’ I asked her, ‘Why do you say so?’ She replied, ‘He has spread the slanderous story.’ Aisha asked, ‘What story?’ The woman then informed her of the matter.
Aisha asked, ‘Have Abu Bakr and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) heard of this?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ At that, Aisha fainted, and when she regained consciousness, she had a fever and trembling.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) came and asked, ‘What is wrong with her?’
I said, ‘She has a fever due to a rumor being spread.’
`Aisha sat up and said, ‘By Allah! Even if I took an oath, you would not believe me. And if I gave an excuse, you would not excuse me. My case and your case are like Jacob and his sons: “So (for me) patience is most fitting. And it is Allah (Alone) Whose help can be sought against that which you assert.” [Surah Yusuf 12:18]’

Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) left, and later Allah revealed (the verses clearing her).
When he informed her, she said: “Praise be to Allah (only), not to anyone else.”

Hadith 3389

Narrated `Urwa: I asked `Aisha, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), about the meaning of the verse:

Until, when the messengers gave up hope and thought that they were denied…” [Surah Yusuf 12:110]

She replied: “It was not that they thought Allah denied them. Rather, their people denied them.”
I said, “By Allah! They were sure their people had rejected them; it wasn’t mere suspicion.”
She said, “O ‘Uraiya (Urwa)! No doubt they were certain about that.”
I said, “Then may the verse mean that the messengers thought Allah had forsaken them?”
She said, “Allah forbid! The messengers never suspected their Lord. This verse is about the followers of the messengers—those who believed in their Lord and their messengers. Their trials lasted long, and Allah’s help was delayed, until the messengers gave up hope concerning the conversion of the disbelievers among their people, and they (i.e., the believers) thought that even their own followers might be shaken in belief. Then Allah’s help came to them.”

Imam al-Bukhari added:

“استيأسوا” is a derived form of ya’su (they despaired),
and “منه” in “فلما استيأسوا منه” means from him (from Yusuf),
and “لا تيأسوا من روح الله” means do not despair of Allah’s mercy—that is, of His relief.

Hadith 3390

Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The noble, son of the noble, son of the noble, son of the noble—
Yusuf, the son of Ya‘qub (Jacob), the son of Ishaq (Isaac), the son of Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon them all.”
