Volume 4, 59 Beginning of Creation
Sahih al-Bukhari 3224
Chapter: 7 If anyone says Amin during the Salat at the end of the recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha
Narrated `Aisha: I stuffed for the Prophet (peace be upon him) a pillow decorated with pictures (of animals), which looked like a Namruqa (i.e., a small cushion). He came and stood between the two doors and his face began to change.
I said, “O Allah’s Messenger! What did we do wrong?”
He said, “What is this pillow?”
I replied, “I have prepared this pillow for you so that you may recline on it.”
He said,
“Don’t you know that angels do not enter a house wherein there are pictures? And whoever makes a picture will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and will be asked to give life to what he has created.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3225
Narrated Abu Talha: I heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saying:
“The angels (of mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3226
Narrated Busr bin Said: Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani narrated something in the presence of Sa
id bin ‘Ubaidullah Al-Khaulani, who was brought up in the house of Maimuna (the wife of the Prophet).
Zaid narrated that Abu Talha said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“The angels (of mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a picture.”
Later, Zaid fell ill and we visited him. To our surprise, we saw a curtain decorated with pictures in his house.
I said to Ubaidullah Al-Khaulani, “Didn’t he (Zaid) tell us about the (prohibition of) pictures?”
He replied, “Yes, but he made an exception for images woven into garments. Didn’t you hear him?”
I said, “No.”
He said, “Indeed, he mentioned it.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3227
Narrated Salim’s father: Once Gabriel promised the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he would visit him. But Gabriel did not come. Later, he said,
“We (angels) do not enter a house which contains a picture or a dog.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3228
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said:
“When the Imam, during the prayer, says, ‘Allah hears him who praises Him,’ say: ‘O Allah! Our Lord! All the praises are for You,’ for if the saying of any one of you coincides with the saying of the angels, his past sins will be forgiven.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3229
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said:
“As long as anyone among you is waiting for the prayer, he is considered to be praying actually, and the angels say, ‘O Allah! Be merciful to him and forgive him,’ unless he leaves his place of prayer or passes wind.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3230
Narrated Ya’la: I heard the Prophet ﷺ reciting the following verse on the pulpit:
“They will call: O Malik…” Sufyan said that ‘Abdullah recited it as:
“They will call: O Mali…”
(Surah Az-Zukhruf, 43:77)
Sahih al-Bukhari 3231
Narrated Aisha: She asked the Prophet ﷺ, "Have you encountered a day harder than the day of the battle of Uhud?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: **"Your tribes have troubled me a lot, and the worst was the day of 'Aqaba when I presented myself to Ibn
Abd-Yalail bin `Abd-Kulal, and he did not respond to my request. So I departed overwhelmed with sorrow, and I did not relax until I found myself at Qarnath-Tha-alib. I lifted my head and saw a cloud shading me. I looked up and saw Gabriel in it. He called me saying, ‘Allah has heard what your people have said and how they have replied to you. Allah has sent the Angel of the Mountains so that you may order him to do whatever you wish to these people.’
The Angel of the Mountains greeted me and said, ‘O Muhammad! If you wish, I will cause the two mountains to fall upon them.’
The Prophet ﷺ replied: ‘No, but I hope that Allah will bring out from their descendants people who will worship Allah Alone and not associate partners with Him.'”**
Sahih al-Bukhari 3232
Narrated Abu Ishaq Ash-Shaibani: I asked Zir bin Hubaish about the statement of Allah:
“And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave (Gabriel) and then he (Gabriel) conveyed (that to Muhammad).” (Surah An-Najm, 53:9–10)
Zir said:
“Ibn Mas’ud informed us that the Prophet ﷺ had seen Gabriel having six hundred wings.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3233
Chapter: The Prophet ﷺ saw of the signs of his Lord the Greatest
Narrated `Abdullah (Ibn Mas’ud): Regarding the verse:
“Indeed he (Muhammad ﷺ) did see of the signs of his Lord, the Greatest!” (Surah An-Najm, 53:18)
He said: “The Prophet ﷺ saw a green carpet spread all over the horizon of the sky.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3234
Chapter: The Prophet ﷺ saw Gabriel in his true form
Narrated `Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
“Whoever claimed that Muhammad ﷺ saw his Lord is committing a great fault. He only saw Gabriel in the form in which he was created, covering the whole horizon.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3235
Narrated Masruq: I asked `Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), “What about His statement:
‘Then he (Gabriel) approached and came closer, and was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or even nearer’ (Surah An-Najm, 53:8–9)?”
She replied:
“That was Gabriel. He used to come to the Prophet ﷺ in the form of a man, but this time he came in his actual and real form, and he covered the whole horizon.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3236
Narrated Samura: The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Last night I saw in a dream two men coming to me. One of them said, ‘The one who kindles the fire is Malik, the keeper of the (Hell) Fire, and I am Gabriel, and this is Michael.'”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3237
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said:
“If a husband calls his wife to his bed (i.e., for marital relations) and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her until morning.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3238
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: He said he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say:
“The Divine Revelation was paused for a while. Then one day, as I was walking, I suddenly heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and to my surprise, I saw the same angel who had come to me in the Cave of Hira, sitting on a chair between the heaven and the earth. I was so frightened that I fell to the ground. I returned to my family and said, ‘Cover me! Cover me!’ Then Allah revealed:
‘O you who are wrapped up (in a blanket), arise and warn, and glorify your Lord, and purify your garments, and shun idols.’ (Surah Al-Muddathir 74:1–5)
Abu Salama (the sub-narrator) said: “Al-Rijz means idols.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3239
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“On the night of my Ascension (Mi’raj) to the heavens, I saw Moses—he was a tall man, brown, with curly hair, as if he were a man from the Shan’awa tribe. I also saw Jesus—medium stature, with a reddish-white complexion, and straight hair. I saw Malik, the keeper of the Hellfire, and I saw the Dajjal (Antichrist) among the signs which Allah showed me.”
Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited the verse: “So be not you in doubt of meeting him…”
(Surah As-Sajda 32:23) — meaning the meeting with Moses during the Mi’raj.
Anas and Abu Bakrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “The angels guard the city of Medina against Ad-Dajjal; he will not be able to enter it.”
